Antenatal Shared Care Committee
The St George and Sutherland Hospitals (SGS) GP Antenatal Shared Care (ANSC) program is a joint initiative of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and the Central and Eastern Sydney PHN (CESPHN).
The GP ANSC program is one where the clinical responsibility for the care of the pregnant woman is provided collaboratively by the GP and the hospital-based services under defined guidelines and protocols. All parties participate in ongoing quality improvement processes related to the program.
ANSC is an option offered to all women assessed as being low risk and suitable for shared care. The program aims to:
- Provide women with flexibility, choice, and continuity of care
- Enhance the skills of GPs caring for women during pregnancy
- Promote communication between GPs and participating hospitals.
- Cater for the preferences and needs of women from culturally diverse backgrounds
The ANSC program is managed by SESLHD maternity facilities with administrative support by CESPHN. It is recognised that GP contribution to the ANSC program is critical for effective implementation. The SGS GP ANSC Program Advisory Committee is a forum of representatives from program partners. The committee is responsible for clinical governance of the ANSC program and ensuring appropriate standards of antenatal care are maintained.
GP CPD program
- Provide ongoing evaluation of ANSC activities.
- Encourage timely communication between maternity services and GPs in the event of pregnancy complications.
