Advocacy

We represent local GPs across seven committees and working groups — ensuring primary care has a strong, independent voice in regional health decisions.

Why advocacy matters

General Practitioners are the backbone of our health system — yet their voice is often underrepresented in the decisions that shape hospitals, referral systems, and policy. The St George Division exists, in part, to change that.

Through our Division Representatives on seven key committees, we ensure that local GP knowledge, experience, and priorities are taken directly to the tables where decisions are made — from antenatal care guidelines to aged care reform, integrative care pathways, and urgent care policy.

We advocate for systems that support continuity of care, equitable access, and sustainable practice environments. Through these initiatives, we aim to empower GPs to thrive professionally while delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

What Our Advocacy Achieves
Shaping CESPHN regional health priorities and governance
Improving discharge summary quality and outpatient referral processes with St George Hospital
Supporting GP participation in the ANSC shared care model
Advising on Aged Care reform implementation across the CESPHN region
Contributing to HealthPathways development for better referral decision support

Seven areas of advocacy

Each committee has a dedicated Division Representative — a practising GP from our community who attends meetings and brings the primary care voice to each table.
